FAQ
Is your soap made with lye?
Here’s a fact: ALL true soap is made with lye. Saponification is the process in which fats and oils are transformed into soap after mixing with lye (sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide) and water. Companies may list their ingredients in the form of this final saponification (i.e. “sodium cocoate” or “sodium olivate”) to avoid scaring the average consumer, but you’re not the average consumer. You now know that these terms just mean “saponified coconut oil” or “saponified olive oil.” No lye, no soap, no lie.
Are your products vegan? What about nut oils or common allergens?
Dive Bar Soap Company vows to use only vegetarian-friendly ingredients. We use butters and oils derived from plants such as coconut, olive, shea, avocado, mango and cocoa. We cannot claim, however, to offer strictly vegan products as we may use natural beeswax, honey, wool, lanolin and goat’s milk in some of our products. Likewise, we try to limit our use of nut-derived products. If we decide to use any items, such as walnut powder or almond oil, we will list it in the ingredient section of each product online and on the physical product packaging. Please contact us at info@divebarsoapcompany.com if you should have any other ingredient questions.
Will my bar look exactly like the picture?
While we make an effort to represent our products in an accurate way, our handcrafted items may vary slightly in design. Some designs are inherently different with each cut, and we will mention that in its description. Therein lies the joy in purchasing from a small-batch maker; your product will be unique and made with love and care. However, if you receive something you aren’t thrilled with, please reach out to us so that we may make adjustments.
How are your products packaged? Do you use plastic?
When considering what type of package to use for our products, we consider its environmental impact, function, practicality during use and cost. Given these parameters, we make every effort to reduce our plastic use and offer reusable and recyclable packaging. However, if the alternatives do not spark joy, or if the packaging costs exponentially more than the product within, we ain’t gonna use it. That being said: we LOVE our crunchy granola-eating friends out there. If there is something that you would like custom-made or custom-packaged, please drop us a line.
